Whose dance is my dance? Comparing capacities for building community

SLIPPAGE director DeFrantz participated in the Movement Research/Global Process Sharing project of 2026 in Central and Eastern Europe, enjoying a teaching residency in Bratislava, Slovakia; Lower Bohemia, and Prague, Czeck Republic in March, 2026.

While there, DeFrantz presented research from the SLIPPAGE lab and led workshops alongside New York City artist Ogemdi Ude.  The project included a mini-symposium Whose Dance is My Dance exploring the terms of collaboration, resistance training, and relation among dance artists moving through the Eastern European contexts and with Black American aesthetic strategies.
